Guest Sauna Gus | A Guided Danish Sauna Ritual

Guest Saunagus with Elizabeth

Join us each Saturday for our Guided Sauna Rituals. Sessions begin in the Cedar Sauna at 10:30a, 11:30a, and 12:30p, and are complimentary with any Saunaday session. We recommend booking your Bathhouse session at least 30-minutes prior to the session you wish to attend, to provide ample time to make your way into the sauna.

Our guest Saunagus spent the past four years leading classic Saunagus sessions at Sauna Nor Copenhagen, Denmark, Elizabeth has recently returned to the United States. We're honored to welcome her to Saunaday to share one of Scandinavia's most cherished sauna traditions.

What is Saunagus?

Saunagus is a guided sensory journey that combines traditional sauna bathing with aromatherapy, breathwork, music, and towel techniques. Throughout the session, the Gusmaster pours water infused with essential oils over the hot stones, creating fragrant steam that fills the sauna. Using a towel or fan, they circulate the heat throughout the room, creating waves of warmth that intensify the sensory experience.

A Saunagus ritual is divided into 12 minute rounds in the sauna, each followed by 10-12 minutes to cool down and cold plunge. The contrast between the intense heat and cold water creates a deeply restorative experience, leaving many guests feeling calmer, stronger, and refreshed.

What to Expect

  • An 8–12 minute, multisensory sauna experience led by a Sauna Master. Using essential oil–infused snowballs or teas, heat, and music, they create waves of steam and circulate it through the room with towel work—raising the intensity and transforming the space moment by moment.

  • During this time, entry into the Cedar Sauna will be limited for approximately 15–20 minutes while the space is prepared, the ritual is performed, and the room returns to baseline.

  • Complimentary with your visit. No separate booking required—simply drop into the Cedar Sauna.

  • Each guest is guaranteed a spot in one Aufguss session during their visit, with additional sessions available as capacity allows.

A Note from Elizabeth

"I have been a practicing Gusmaster in Copenhagen, Denmark, leading classic Saunagus sessions while living abroad for the past four years. I recently returned to the United States and look forward to sharing this tradition with you.

I strive to facilitate a sauna experience that promotes a positive body, mind, and soul. My goal is for you to leave feeling calmer, stronger, and refreshed.

I hope to see you in the heat."
